Elevating Communities At SingLand Volunteers Week 2022

Features | 29 July 2022

At SingLand, we believe in building inclusive communities and recognise that we have a responsibility to help those who have fallen through the cracks of society. As part of our commitment towards this, we have introduced SingLand Elevates, a corporate initiative that centres around empowering our employees to champion, serve and care for the less fortunate through a series of programmes.

Through partnerships with social enterprises and charitable organisations, we endeavour to support a range of beneficiaries including disadvantaged children, low-income families and migrant workers. Our efforts extend from providing practical help to those in need, to enriching young lives through education and lifting poverty through training and employment.

“The past two years have highlighted the uncertain times we live in, not least because of the global pandemic and recent geopolitical tensions. This has reinforced our role and responsibility to dedicate time and resources to show more empathy and support towards the most vulnerable amongst us,” says Chief Executive Officer Jonathan Eu.

WILLING HEARTS, HELPING HANDS

To kick off SingLand Elevates, we held our inaugural SingLand Volunteers Week from 18–22 July where employees took time from their usual work schedules to volunteer at local soup kitchen Willing Hearts. Over the course of the week, we gathered at Willing Hearts’ new premises at Telok Kurau to help with meal production, packing and other tasks.

Founded by Tony Tay, who started the charity in his home kitchen in 2003, Willing Hearts prepares and delivers 11,000 meals daily to beneficiaries including the elderly, the disabled, low-income families, children from single-parent families and migrant workers in Singapore. It is no small feat given that they do this 365 days a year. With only a handful of staff, the charity depends mostly on volunteers for its day-to-day running, and we were glad to be able to help in whatever way we could.

The road to creating a fairer, more inclusive society is a long one. But if our time at Willing Hands has taught us anything, it is that we can all play a part in making a difference. As we kick off SingLand Elevates, we are committed to coming together as an organisation to lift those around us who need a helping hand and to be a force for good.
