For our second annual SingLand Volunteers, we partnered with the Central Singapore Community Development Council for its Silver Homes programme which seeks to improve the living conditions of disadvantaged seniors living in the rental flats. On 25 August, about 80 SingLand volunteers and tenants from Singapore Land Tower helped to spruce up the living spaces of disadvantaged seniors living in over 20 rental flats in Bendemeer.
SingLand Volunteers was first introduced last year as part of the group’s wider social sustainability initiative, SingLand Elevates. As part of our 60th anniversary celebrations this year, SingLand Elevates was expanded to cover new areas of support.
With almost one in four Singaporeans expected to reach age 65 and above by 2030, we are committed to address the growing needs of a rapidly ageing population.
“Having a safe, healthy and clean environment is important for our seniors so that they can age independently in their silver years. We are supportive of the government’s vision to create more senior-friendly homes and do so through such CSR activities which help to improve the comfort and safety of elderly residents. More needs to be done as Singapore’s population grows older and we look forward to collaborating with like-minded partners to ensure seniors in our community do so gracefully and with dignity.”
– SingLand Chief Executive Officer, Jonathan Eu
Ms Denise Phua, Mayor of Central Singapore District and MP for Jalan Besar GRC (Kampong Glam), Mr Heng Chee How, Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Defence and MP for Jalan Besar GRC (Whampoa) together with representatives from Central Singapore CDC, also attended the activity, where they interacted with elderly residents living in the rental flats and SingLand volunteers.
Ms Denise Phua, Mayor of Central Singapore District, said, “The Central District is home to the largest number of rental flats in Singapore. Silver Homes is a signature initiative of the Central Singapore CDC to uplift the physical living condition of the disadvantaged seniors living in them. This will benefit both their physical and mental well-being. I applaud partners like SingLand who enthusiastically volunteered effort and time to make a difference to the seniors in our midst. And I urge more to step forward and join us to create safe and cleaner homes for all.”
Looking ahead, we seek to enhance our CSR endeavours, particularly in furthering women empowerment initiatives and environmental protection. Building upon the success of events like SingLand Volunteers, we are committed to creating a lasting and positive impact as a significant driving force for social change.
